BREAKING: APGA’s Obiano wins Anambra governorship election

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Willie Obiano, has won the Anambra governorship election. Mr. Obiano won in all the 21 local government areas of the state with a total of about 234,071 votes.

He was followed by the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Tony Nwoye. Oseloka Obaze of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, emerged third while Osita Chidoka of United Progressives Party, UPP, came a distant fourth.

The APGA National Youth Leader, Chuks Nwoga, has described the election as being free and fair. “It was a peaceful process even in the face of threats by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to boycott the election though there were few cases of violence. INEC did a good job, you can’t get a completely perfect process. In some places material didn’t come on time but the election is fair,” Mr. Nwoga said.

“People came out to vote even with this IPOB threats, there was no case of low turnout of voters, the election was ok. You don’t expect 100 per cent to come out but the turnout was impressive”, Mr. Nwoga said.

The UPP candidate, Mr. Chidoka, has already conceded defeat, saying he lost to superior financial power. Anambra election went down in history as being the governorship election with the highest number of candidates, 37, in Nigeria’s electoral history.

Rumble in Abia PDP as Discontent Mounts against Ikpeazu

Okezie-Ikpeazu
The simmering discontent and anger in the Abia state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have finally reached the boiling point with the state publicity secretary, Chief Don Ubani yesterday warning against impending “implosion”.

Ubani poured out the general feelings of disappointment over Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s perceived neglect of the party executives in a post on his Whatsapp account, saying that in a culture of silence where even the party elders have been shy to tell the governor the gospel truth he has decided to “bell the cat”. He told the media that what he has done was to proffer “corrective measures” to save the ruling party from implosion, adding, “If all of us keep quiet the party will die”.

In the post, Ubani said that the situation in Abia PDP calls for concern as some prominent politicians have already dumped the party for APC, adding that speculations were now rife that four members of the House of Representatives were now ready to dump PDP for APC. To avert a further exodus of high ranking political office holders from PDP Ubani called for “a careful, honest, strong, and effective reconciliation mechanism be put in place to, at least, reduce the number (of defectors)”. He said, “while efforts are being made to woo new members to the party, honest efforts should also be made to make those who are still in the party to be comfortable and happy”.

The publicity secretary, who was commissioner for information and later petroleum in the last administration, said that time has come for PDP members to tell themselves the home truth in order to avoid the mistake of the past. He said that the restiveness and discontent in the ruling party were traceable to the impunity and imposition of candidates during the last local government election as well as a horde of sycophants that have hijacked Ikpeazu. According to him, while the clique holding Ikpeazu hostage have deliberately refused to give the correct picture of the party, they have been busy amassing personal wealth to the detriment of party unity and cohesion. He said: “A situation where members of a ruling party in a state would at best, be suffering and smiling in squalor and abject penury while very few close to the helmsman will be swimming in flagrant ostentation, buying the best of latest SUV cars, building hostels and lodges around university campuses and spending fortunes lecherously, can never guarantee a peaceful and sustainable political environment”.

Chief Ubani said that he has satisfied his conscience by giving an early warning signal to both Governor Ikpeazu and the PDP stakeholders. He warned that if the rumour of an impending implosion should be dismissed with a wave of the hand like the PDP “arrogantly” did at the national level in 2015, the same disastrous consequences would be witnessed in Abia come 2019.

Corpses Of 28 IPOB Members Allegedly Killed By Nigerian Soldiers Found Hidden In A Bush

Corpses of some Indigenous People of Biafra members reportedly killed by Nigerian soldiers have been discovered in a bush in Umuahia.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared 21 days mourning for its members killed during the military invasion of the home of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu at Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State. The group also revealed that it has discovered more corpses of its slain members in a bush within the precincts of the home of its leader. According to the group, 28 of its members were found in the bush following the invasion. About 11 of such bodies have already been interred.
In a report, a senior member of the group, Mark Eze Ofuonye, who disclosed how some of their members were shot dead by the invading soldiers, and their corpses dumped in a bush near the home of the IPOB leader, said: “Some of our members, numbering over 28, were murdered in cold blood by the military during the invasion of our leader’s home at Afara Ukwu. The soldiers were doing a sort of mop up operation; whenever they killed any of our members, they carried away the corpse to conceal their horrendous act but it was not possible.

“So, they filled up their trucks with our members’ corpses. The corpses we retrieved and which we are burying at present are those the soldiers could not carry.  They just came out with the intention of killing any human being or living thing that was found in the compound of our leader. The people they met were not armed still they shot them, even people just standing nearby and those passing through the area were caught in the attack.”
Continuing, Ofuonye said: “The corpses we are burying now (referring to the day of the interview) were found inside the bush. They were shot by soldiers and they ran into the bush with bullet wounds thinking that they could receive help there but no help came their way and they died inside the bush. Some of the dead bodies were discovered last week inside the bush at the back of Nnamdi Kanu’s house. The 28 were those ones that were killed within the axis of the house of our leader. But the total number killed within this range is 305 persons.”

The IPOB chieftain who said there was no need for the operation by the Nigerian army as members of the group did not carry arms neither were they violent, added that the leadership of the group declared the 21-day mourning for their slain members. Disclosing that those killed were from the Eastern heartland, Ofuonye said that in addition to burying the dead, the group is also treating the injured and taking care of the imprisoned ones.

“We lost very vibrant and lovely youths who were just peacefully asking for their rights, but the Nigerian government chose to use brute force on them. Some of our members, who were forced to drink poisoned water, have been defecating blood and we are also treating them. About 76 of our members were dumped in Aba prisons under the most inhuman condition and many of them are ill. A lot of things are being done against our members, but the most beautiful thing about all these things is that the horrible experience we are passing through is giving us strength. The spirit has risen, the enthusiasm has come because when you look back and see you’ve lost a lovely one, a colleague, going back becomes a very big problem; you can’t go so that it will not look as betrayal. As I speak, we are establishing more zones and new members are coming in, we are winning the war of battle of hearts and minds,” he assured. He said the 21-days of mourning began October 26. He was emphatic that the struggle would continue, stating: “Because in any struggle, people die, but the only painful aspect of it is that we lost young boys, youths who had bright future. In the civilized world, you don’t touch people like that, no matter what they did, at worst you take them to court; but we have drawn strength from their death and we are not going back.”

He advised the United Nations to send its representatives to the home of their leader at Afara Ukwu to be able to see how soldiers invaded the house of a core civilian with heavy armoury and none of the soldiers sustained any scratch which he said was an indication that despite the propaganda mounted by the Nigerian army, the IPOB members were not armed.

WHY I RESIGNED FROM PDP – Adaelu

That is the reason why I have come to put to clarity and set the records straights to Abians so as to curb further deception and lies by those whose mission in governance is to see that Abia and Abians do not enjoy the dividends of democracy and their rights to good life is denied them while a few individuals sits atop our collective wealth meant for the development of the state and its citizenry.

Abians are aware of the fiasco of monumental magnitude and nightmare the PDP government we all campaigned and brought to office has turned to, causing Abians to live below poverty lines while a few live like kings off our collective wealth, all the promises we made to Abians during the election have all been broken, teachers are not being paid, civil servants now beg to feed themselves and their families, our roads have been rendered impassable while those who we made the care takers of our collective wealth and destiny are busy building mansions and riding on luxury SUV’s, our markets have been left to rot and decay while the government slam the traders with multiplicity of taxes without caring for their welfare, security has now become a luxury in Abia state for only the rich to enjoy, Abia has been turned to a state where payment of salaries to civil servants has become a privilege rather than a right, pensioners are now left to die unattended to and uncared for, while the state government diverts the money meant for salaries and pensions to private use.

Every conscientious effort meant to correct and redirect the impunity, bad governance, wickedness and lack of direction that has characterized the PDP led Abia state government has been met with stiff opposition by those who sees the government as their personal property and feeds fat on the suffering of the poor Abians.

No man of good conscience will sit back and watch his people go hungry and not react in the name of party loyalty, I cannot sit aloof and watch as kleptomaniacs who found themselves in government steal our collective destinies all because we belong to the same political party, I will rather be seen to be conspicuously uninvolved with those whose major business in governance is purely self-aggrandizement at the expense of the suffering masses, having to state categorically that my business in politics is development and my political ideology is running in different directions with what is being practiced in the party today in Abia.

Today, I Engineer Solomon Adaelu ceases to be a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the following reasons as stated above and any further political moves will be made known to my friends, followers, fans and loyalists after due consideration and consultation with my constituents.

AGBAZUERE BACKS ADAELU, SAYS THERE IS INJUSTICE IN THE LAND

The political moves by Honorable Solomon Adaelu seems to be gathering more momentum as another prominent ngwa man has given him a nod. Our sources informed us that Honorable Solomon Adaelu and Barrister ACB Agbazuere Phd. had strategic meeting yesterday at Bolton Hotel in Abuja, FCT. The outcome of the meeting we are still investigating, but at the end of the meeting both ngwa sons snapped pictures which is already trending online and creating ripples.

On one of the Facebook accounts where it was posted, trending comments were suggesting that Barrister Agbazuere went to plead with with Honorable Adaelu not to move. But in a swift move, Agbazuere immediately made it clear that he never held a meeting with Adaelu to plead to him not to move to another party or contest for governor.

Barrister Agbazuere made it known that their is injustice in the land and great disservice to the people. ‘I could not have gone to plead with Solomon Adaelu. There is injustice in the land and great disservice to the people’ he said. Obviously, this above statement by Agbazuere gives a nod to the political movement of Honorable Solomon Adaelu.

We also gathered that so many major stakeholders in Governor Okezie Ikpeazu campaign of 2015 from ngwa extraction are already supporting Adaelu.

UPDATED: Court Orders Final Forfeiture of N3 Billion Assets linked to Diezani

Diezani Allison-Madueke

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State has ordered the final forfeiture of assets worth about N3.4 billion linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The judgement delivered by Justice Abdulaziz Anka on Wednesday in a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission affects assets located in Lagos and Rivers states and Abuja.
It followed the failure of the respondents in the case to submit any counter affidavit to the motion seeking permanent forfeiture of the properties. The respondents were also not in court when the judgement was delivered.

The respondents include Mrs. Alison-Maduekwe (first respondent), Donald Chidi (second respondent), Chapel Properties Limited (third respondent), Blue Nile Estate Limited (fourth respondent), Azinga Meadows Limited (fifth respondent), and Vistapoint Company Limited (sixth respondent). The lead counsel to EFCC, Anselum Ozioko, had earlier informed the court that the anti-graft agency had already advertised in national newspapers in Nigeria for bids by organisations interested in managing the properties.

\Mr. Ozioko had moved a motion on notice dated September 14 and filed on same day for the final forfeiture of the asset and properties attached to the motion and such order as the court may wish to make. He said the motion was in accordance with section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act 2006 and 44(2B) of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended). The EFCC counsel said the grounds for his request included: “Statutory power of the court to grant the final forfeiture of the said properties, the properties are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity and the court earlier granted a temporary forfeiture of the properties”.

The properties include:

1. 21 mixed housing units of eight four-bedroom (en-suite) terrace units,
2. Two three-bedroom (en-suite) penthouse apartments,
3. Six three-bedroom (en-suite) apartments,
4. Two three-bedroom (en-suite) maisonette,
5. Two two-bedroom (en-suite) apartments, and
6. One four-bedroom (en-suite) apartment, all located at 7 Thurnburn Street and 5 Raymond Street Yaba, Lagos and registered in the name of Chapel Properties Limited and were valued at N937 million; and in Heritage Court Estate in Overall Street, Diobu Government Residential Area Phase 1 Extension, Port Harcourt in Rivers State, valued at N928 million.
7. 16 four-bedroom terrace house, and
8. 13 three-bedroom terrace house with a one-room maid’s quarters en-suite per unit; located in Mabushi Gardens Estate Plot 1205 Canasta Zone B06, Abuja and valued at N650 million; and
9. Six flats of 3-bedroom and one boys quarters each, lawn tennis court, gym, matured garden and its appurtenances, located in Plot 808 (135) AWOLOWO Road, Ikoyi Lagos and valued at N805 million.
According to the court documents, all the properties are estimated to be worth N3.4 billion (N3,451,592,199).

The EFCC had presented 13 exhibits, one of which claimed that the First Bank of Nigeria confirmed that it rendered home service to Mrs. Alison-Maduekwe to convert N3,342,307 million to dollars and credit it into First Bank Mortgages Limited Account No 2008133531. There were also exhibits showing that U.S. dollars were picked up from Mrs. Alison-Maduekwe and converted to Naira after which the fund was transferred to First Bank of Nigeria Mortgages Limited.

The money was said to have been transferred in tranches of $3,342,307 million at the exchange rate of N157 to the dollat on September 29, 2011; $3,321,020 at exchange rate of 157 to the naira March 20, 2012; $1,000,000 at exchange rate of 186.5 to the naira on June 6, 2015; and $2,071,428 at the exchange rate of 156.8 to the naira. According to the EFCC, the money was used to purchase properties in Lagos, Rivers and Abuja from First bank Mortgage Limited. It said other tranches of $4,140,127 exchanged at the rate of N157 to the dollat on June 4, 2012 and $2,167,024 at exchange rate of 186.5 to the naira on April 4, 2013 were transferred to First Bank Mortgage Limited for the same purpose.

While delivering Judgement, Justice Anka noted that the respondents were not present in court despite their lawyers being aware of the continuation of hearing in the case on Wednesday.
He said events showed that the respondents seem to have abandoned the case and therefore granted the applicant’s prayers for permanent forfeiture of the asset. Justice Anka also struck out an application by the defence that the EFCC should be compelled to serve the initial order for temporary forfeiture on the respondents and that the court should withhold any order for permanent forfeiture
Mr. Anka said: “A motion exparte is not binding to be served by the Prosecuting Counsel except otherwise stated by the court’ so the Application is struck out.

“I have also read the prayers of the prosecuting counsel and having gone through all the exhibits presented with the failure of the defense counsels to appear, it shows they have abandoned the case despite being aware of the case for today. The prayers of the Applicants (EFCC) on final forfeiture is hereby granted. The first to sixth respondents’ lawyers were not in court when the judgement was delivered. Mr. Anka had at the last sitting ordered temporary forfeiture of the assets while ordering the EFCC to place adverts for interested firms who would love to manage the properties to signify interest.

He had also directed the EFCC to invite anyone through advertisement to tell the court why the assets should not be forfeited to the federal government. The court had given the commission 14 days from the date of the last hearing to place the advert. Mrs. Alison-Maduekwe is said to be receiving treatment for cancer in the United Kingdom where she is also being investigated for money laundering. The EFCC had earlier told newsmen that occupants of the forfeited buildings who have legal tenancy agreements would be allowed to live there pending the expiration of their tenancy agreements.

Breaking! Nigeria Army Have Killed Our Leader Nnamdi Kanu - IPOB

                                PRESS STATEMENT

The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s leadership worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to alert the whole world again that our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu whereabouts is still unknown till date. IPOB have gone deep in search of the whereabouts of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his patients no where to be found. We are using this opportunity to inform the whole world including the United Nation that the Nigerian military killed our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during the attack and invasion of his compound in Umuahia Abia State.

After going through the record of IPOB members in the compound on the day of this heinous attack and invasion we discovered that about 38 members were arrested and up till now nobody seen or heard from them. We also discovered that Nigerian army left the compound of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku with 22 dead bodies on the same day. We are once again raising alarm for the United Nation and other relevant bodies across the globe to ask Nigerian government and her security operatives to give details of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and parents including those dead bodies and those picked up alive during the attack and invasion of our leader’s compound in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku Umuahia.

We wondered why the South Eastern governors would decide to collaborate with Hausa Fulani oligarchy to kill our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and parents. Nnamdi Kanu has been using nonviolence approach for the realisation of Biafra since 2012 the struggle for Biafra independence started. Okezie Ikpeazu who was mandated by the federal government and other south Eastern governors to lead the fight against Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members in Abis state must hold responsible for this action in distant time. Nevertheless, the struggle for Biafra independence is something nobody can stop no matter what they do against IPOB. Even the South Eastern governors put together cannot stop Biafra restoration project. It is important it get to the Nigerian government and south East governors they must produce our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before it will get out of hands because they cannot escape or withstand what is about to come and IPOB family members and Biafrans worldwide will not accept this heinous crime committed against the innocent civilians in every part of Biafraland this time around.

Again, the world must ask Nigerian government and south Eastern governors why and how they sent militery to invade Nnamdi Kanu’s compound that led to the loss of many innocent lives and death of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu within five days of the operation in his compound. Biafrans wherever you are now be vigilant and begin to ask south East governors the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu whom they planted solders in his compound before the launching and commencement of the code named Operation Python Dance in Umuahia and other south Eastern states. The security operatives were kept in Abia State government house for days before the first Attack that took 3 lives on 12th September 2017 been Sunday. The South Eastern governors must be held accountable for this action in our land. We are giving the federal government and south East governors 48 hours to produce or declare the condition of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu if he still alive or charge him to court within seven days because if anything happen to him the south Eastern governors can never bear the consequences after the expiration of this notice, again the federal government and South Eastern governors should hasten to build more prison yards and acquire more weapons they will use to kill more Biafrans.

IPOB Protesters: [Photo credit: Daily Post Nigeria]
The Nigerian military has declared the pro-Biafra separatist group, IPOB, a “terrorist organisation.” The military made the declaration in a statement on Friday by the Director of Defence Information, John Enenche. Clashes between soldiers on a military operation and IPOB members in Abia State have left several people wounded. Although there have been reports of deaths particularly of IPOB members, none has been confirmed.

IPOB and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu are campaigning for an independent country of Biafra made up of ethnic Igbos. Although they had said their campaign was non-violent, Mr. Kanu said this week that that stance would be reviewed, accusing the military of attacking unharmed members of his organisation. It was also reported how the police in Abia State blamed IPOB for the burning of a police station in Aba, where a dusk to dawn curfew has since been imposed.

In his statement, Mr. Enenche, a major general, listed five reasons the military considered for labelling IPOB a terror group. These include “The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads; extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks, and militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.”

Read the military’s full statement below.

PUBLIC AWARENESS ON THE STATE OF INDEPENDENT PEOPLE OF BIAFRA
1. The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) group which has posed to be a security challenge in the Country, has been metamorphosing from one stage to the other. After due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient, to notify the general public that; the claim by IPOB actors that the organization is non-violent is not true. Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB. In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that has been terrorising the general public among others include;

a. The formation of a Biafra Secret Service.
b. Claimed formation of Biafra National Guard.
c. Unauthorised blocking of public access roads.
d. Extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.
e. Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.
f. Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on 11 September 2017 and also attempts to snatch their rifles.
3. From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation. Therefore, parents and particularly unsuspecting residents of the South East and other Nigerians should advice their wards to desist from joining the group.
4. The Defence Headquarters restates its commitment to handling all the security challenges in the Country and further assures all Nigerians of the protection of lives and property.

Ex-police officer, five others arrested for alleged murder of Imo Catholic priest

Crack operatives of the Imo State police command have arrested the suspected killers of a Catholic Priest, the late Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo. The deceased was abducted at the popular axis, Banana Junction, Amaifeke, Orlu, in Imo State, last Friday, by the suspects and taken away. His body was found the next day, Saturday, inside a bush in Omuma, Oru East Local Council of the state. The cleric was on his way to Osina, Ideato South, Imo State, to plan for the burial of his father, who died last week Monday. Until his demise, he was a priest at Orlu Catholic Diocese.

Briefing reporters at the command headquarters, Owerri, yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Chris Okey Ezike, said an ex-police Corporal, Jude Madu, allegedly committed the crime. He was found out through forensic technology, as he was also in possession of the deceased’s Infinix mobile phone. Others suspects arrested, who were paraded are Izuchukwu Okafor, also known as Small, 28; Onyema Cyril, 29; Emmanuel Ozuigbo, 29; Victor Ikechukwu Irokansi, 33; and Ifechukwu Nwosu, 28. The late priest may have died of suffocation as the suspects confessed to have tied his mouth and cello-taped it.

In a graphic account, Ezike, said, operatives of the command, had on September 1, around 8:35p.m., received a security report that four gunmen drove with speed, in a Toyota Avalon car, double-crossing a priest, and later stopped him, dispossessing him of his car, whisking him to an unknown destination.
“They drove the late priest’s car, Toyota Corolla Car with Registration No: IMO:KED 290 AA. The police subsequently declared a search on September 2. The DPO of Omuma reported that an unidentified corpse of a man was seen in his area of jurisdiction and took it to the mortuary. The body was later identified as that of the kidnapped priest. "The investigation took my team to Imo, Rivers and Anambra states for five days. From the evidence available, Rev. Fr. Onunkwo was abducted, tied up, his mouth cello-taped and dumped in the booth of the Avalon car by the daredevil hoodlums. The deceased apparently gasped for air but could not make it. This interim finding is yet to be supported with scientific examination and opinion, which further investigations intend to explore.”

Okafor said he was apprehended in September 6 at Presidential Hotels, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while Cyril was caught same day, at Control Post Owerri. Onyema, who holds a National Diploma in Public Administration from Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, disclosed he drove the Avalon saloon car numbered ETU 368 AA with which the crime was committed.

Alleged Misappropriation of Funds: Otti Labels Ikpeazu’s Response ‘Uncouth’

The former gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has described as uncouth, the response of Abia State government over his allegation that the states resources are being frittered away. Otti had on August 16, 2017, at a press conference, raised issues over the management of funds accruing to the state since 2015 and also objected to the recent approval of a loan of $200m for the State Government by the National Assembly. But the governor, in a statement, accused Otti of being mischievous and charged him to publicly encourage the auditors of Diamond Bank Plc to publish detailed audit reports of the bank covering the period that he served as MD and the year after.

Otti insisted that the National Assembly approved $200m loan to Abia State Government, but argued that the documents he sighted showed that the National Assembly might have been misled into approving a loan that is different from the one recommended by the president. “In my last press conference, I had indicated that on May 25, 2017 a Presidential request for $100 million regarding Abia State Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) was sent to the National Assembly, however, on July 18, 2017 the Minister of Finance sent a request for $200 million to the National Assembly in respect of Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ASIIDP) which curiously, is exactly the same request that Abia State Government submitted, dated October 2015,” he alleged.
He therefore charged the governor to explain how Abia State RAMP became ASIIDP and how $100 million transform to $200 million, adding that the information from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation on fund accrued to the state indicates that the Governor has received several funds from May 2015 till date, totalling N120 billion.
“You also borrowed N10b from an old generation bank and received the following funds: bail out funds N14.105b, first tranche of Paris Club refund N10.6b, second tranche of Paris Club refund N5.7b. By your own admission, you collect N1billion monthly on internally generated revenue. “You will agree with me that these are huge sums of money. I do know that it costs money to run government and part of government expenditure goes to payment of salaries but I do not think it is too much to ask, if a citizen demands to know how these funds were utilized.”

Otti advised governor Okezie Ikpeazu to come clean and let citizens know why salaries are not being paid in spite of all the funds received by the state.“It is no use making claims that are not true like the ones made in your responses to me to the effect that you have paid all outstanding salary arrears. Those who are owed are there in the state and I consider it a great disservice to them and the state when their governor makes untruthful claims about salary payments.” On the claims of commissioning 26 roads and constructing 65 others, Otti said, “I will advise that you give Abia people real roads. All those roads built and commissioned by propaganda on the state radio and sponsored social media platforms can only remain a mirage, when many parts of Aba and Umuahia remain in ruins and impassable” he said.

D’Tigress stop Cote d’Ivoire, hit semifinals

Nigeria’s women senior basketball team, D’Tigress snatched a semifinal ticket at the ongoing of 2017 FIBA Afrobasket Women championship yesterday in Bamako, Mali after blowing out Cote d’Ivoire in the quarterfinal stage 98 to 43 points. The team, captained by Turkey-based Aisha Mohammed had it easy as they dominated and won all the four quarters against the Ivoriens who struggled to cope with the superior tactical approach of the Sam Vincent-led team.

A breakdown of the game saw the team leading at the end of every quarter with 23-13, 46-15, 71-32 and 98-43, which means the D’Tigress will face hosts, Mali or Egypt in the semifinal. Akhator Evelyn continued her 5 star performance at the competition as she powered the team to a confortable quarterfinal victory with 21points, 2 assists and 11 rebounds. Evelyn who lived up to the pre-match hype never disappointed, providing the platform for her team’s win, as she continues to push for the Most Valuable Player of the tournament in her first Afrobasket campaign. D’Tigress co-captain, Kalu Ezinne, put up another impeccable show contributing 17points, 8 assists and 3 rebounds on a wet Friday afternoon at the Palais Des Sports Salamatou, Maiga, Bamako.

Elephant Girls Basketball Club of Lagos 3 points specialist, Nkechi Akashili recorded a 60 percent conversion ratio from the 3points line as she successfully made 3 out of 5 attempts on her way to contributing 13points for her team. Atosu Upe weighed in with 12points and 4 assists to secure a semi final ticket.Speaking after the game, Sam Vincent praised her girls for improving on their last game against Senegal. “I thought we recovered a little bit more from the Senegal game in terms of getting our fast breaks going, pushing the ball a little bit higher and finishing well under the basket which we struggled to do against Senegal. “I thought our defence was more aggressive. In the game against Senegal, we were down a little bit against the physical players, but we recovered to play a lot better.”

Despite not reaching the 100point mark, Vincent said a win is a win irrespective of the final result of the game, which has seen them book a date in the semi finals. “I am excited about today’s defence, we have only been together for just six games, yet it’s a team that is really competitive which shows how good they are and tomorrow will be a good test against Mali.” Ahead of the semi finals against Mali/Egypt, the coach acknowledged that the game is going to be tough against a bigger and experienced Malian side. For the team to stand a good chance of proceeding to the finals and book an automatic 2018 FIBA World cup ticket, Vincent said: “We know we have to come out, have an exceptional game and really defend the post very well and we have to get out and run.”

ABIA STATE: PDP HAS NO VISION, NO TEMPLATE, NO DRIVE, NO PASSION, NO PROGRAM FOR ABIANS – OGAH

In a recent media chat between Abia State Online Media Practitioners and Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah the President of the Master Energy Group. In this media chat, Ogah expressed disappointment that the happenings in Abia State and blamed the ruling party as the reason behind the present ugly situation of the State. Read full interview:

WITH WHAT YOU HAVE ON THE GROUND, WHAT CAN YOU DO TO IMPROVE ON THE LIFE OF ABIANS, IF YOU ARE GIVEN THE OPPURTUNITY TO GOVERN ABIA COME 2019?
I thank you so much for this question, but I have to tell you that there are a lot of ways to touch the lives of the people. I don’t have to be Governor to touch the life of Abians and that is what we have demonstrated with the complex you just visited. There are other ways i have developed through i touch Abians, i have people under my scholarship across the state, i embark on empowerment programs from time to time.

Moreover, i have not made up mind concerning 2019, i am still praying but i believe that i can always do something because there are so many things to be done to touch the lives of Abians and that is what i am already doing. I don’t have to be Governor to do that. For me i believe i have a lot to offer to Abians, its not about politics, i didn’t come into politics because i want to be Governor, i wanted to find a way to offer my services to the people in my own little way. I wanted to prove to the people that a lot of things they have been told that is impossible are actually possible. I wanted to demonstrate to Abians that Governance is very easy, if you truly come with the intention to serve. So i believe there is a lot i can offer to the people, like creating jobs for them, insuring that you are empowered and getting their hopes rekindled.

AS A STAKEHOLDER IN THE ABIA PROJECT, HOW DO YOU ASSESS THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION?

I have said it before in the last interview i granted that the PDP in Abia State is structured like a cult that cares for its own members while the masses are left to languish. There is no vision, there is no template, there is nothing in place, there is no drive, there is no passion, no program. Abia PDP Structured Governance like a national cake to be shared zone by zone. Each zone comes to power to cut their share and go while the people suffer. Anyone who comes to power begins to think first on how to acquire properties in different parts of the world, without thinking about the people. They don’t care. Governance is about service, it is about leaving a lasting legacy. Can you Imagine that the achievements of the old Eastern region can still not be attempted today, rather the infrastructures built then are decaying or being sold. None of todays Governors of the south east today has attempted to replicate the vision of just one man. Governance is about vision, you have to sit down and project where you want your people to be in the next 10 years, 20 years or 30 years. Payment of Salaries should not even be talked about, because it is always part of the wage bill. I believe that if you love the people, you will first of all pay them their salaries. There shouldn’t be any excuse for owing workers, because Government receives various revenues, From IGR, to Federal Allocations, to windfalls. That apart because its recurrent, lets talk about capital expenditure, where the house of legislators approve funds for a particular project several times yet the legislators cant speak out against this fraud. Is it that we are cursed?

Anyways, as far as am concerned, there will be no PDP in Abia State come 2019. I don’t see any justification for any human being dead or alive to vote for PDP in Abia state. What we are saying is that Abia must move forward. We have stayed so long in the dark. Even the people being governed should ask questions when things are going wrong, as it is today. People should speak out, that is what is needed to birth change. I am speaking the way am speaking because i don’t need anything from Abia State in my community. They have done nothing for us. I built the schools, they are the best, i built the police station, i built the hospitals and equipped them, so i don’t need government to do anything for me. The People should stand up and say enough is enough. I can afford to go and live in America, but what about our people? Look at what is happening in Abia, businesses are packing up, no roads in Aba, nothing is going on, warehouses are being converted, what we see is moribund industries everywhere. I have told them before that we must work with the private sector to develop the state, but no business man can invest in any state, when they don’t trust the people in power. People in public office should endeavour to be open, because no matter how we try to hide the truth, it must come to the fore one day, and if you like by then run to America or Germany, you will be made to come back and pay for it, that is why you see people resisting change, because they know the evil they have perpetrated. I don’t want to loose my faith, my sanity, my conscience and intergrity because i want to be a Governor, its better i give up Governorship and have all these, because there are better days ahead.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE DUMPED PDP FOR APC, WHAT DO YOU INTEND TO DO TO IMPROVE THE IMAGE OF THE PARTY IN THE STATE?
Recall that by the time we came into PDP in 2013, the party was almost dead in Abia State, people don’t want to hear about PDP anywhere. But we changed that within a very short time. We did in the past we will still it again. We will go into our communities and inform our people. PDP is not Igbo mans Party, there is nothing like that. Abia state today needs national focus, Abia needs to be connected to the national grid politically, because there are a lot of benefits at the center, we need to reposition Abia for the good of the people.
Moreover, Abians are wonderful people, they are not too keen about the party, they are more interested in the person and for now i am not too bordered about the Governorship, i want us to first build the party, lets take APC to every nook and cranny of the state, that we will do and after that the party can field her own candidates, which will be people of unequalled character. By October 1st we will declare and it will be a total Tsunami for the PDP in the state. We will let people know why PDP should be rooted out in Abia state. We have statistics, we have fact, we have figures, We have evidences to show to the whole world when the time comes why PDP should be phased out. So APC taking PDP out of Abia is very simple. We are already drawing the strategy. So today in Abia State, APC is the party to Reckon with.

RECENTLY THERE IS WHAT SEEMS TO BE A RAY OF HOPE IN ABIA, THE SENATE APPROVED FOR ABIA TO BORROW $200M FROM ADB, WHAT IS YOUR TAKE SIR?
A ray of hope? You call borrowing a ray of hope? Borrowing cannot be a ray of hope. It is a ray of catastrophe. For What? What are the projects they are borrowing the money for? I am totally against the taking of any more facility from anywhere. Do you know that Abia is indebted to the tune of N72bn, go and check with DMO. What have we done with the one we borrowed in the past? If they say they want o borrow, they should define what they want to do with it.  If they are borrowing for commercial purposes then it is understandable, but if it is borrowing a facility that will be misappropriated, then there is no hope there, it is merely hopelessness. The House of Assembly are not doing their job. Why will they approve for the state to borrow when the previous ones have not been properly utilised or accounted for? The state assembly should fight this battle for the people, i don’t want to believe that they have being compromised as people are saying, but they should also know that Nigerians no longer spare compromising and unperforming legislators, some legislators were even slapped in the North.
Am not against borrowing money, but you have to show what you have done with the one you borrowed before and tell us what you intend to do with the one you want to borrow. What are we even borrowing for? If Abia can be well structured, we can make well over N100m everyday from the leather industry(if they want that they can come for consultancy…laughter), its not by touting, pursuing Okada, Keke people and Trailer Drivers, the world has gone beyond that. There a lot of initiatives that needs to be developed in the state to generate cash flow from Aba, Umuahia and across the state. You don’t necessarily need to borrow. How much did Peter Obi borrow? Anambra is larger than Abia. They have rebuilt Ochanja Market, and other markets are springing up in Anambra state. And other cities like Nnewi are emerging in the state. Look at Ebonyi here, few years ago, if you were transferred to Abakaliki, you will be crying, but today people are leaving Umuahia to go and live in Abakaliki. Is it not a disaster? So i believe that the state Assembly owe the people Explanation for all the Loans they have been approving without a commensurate executed projects!

WHAT INFORMS YOUR DECISION TO INVEST AT HOME AND WHY DO YOU THINK THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION  HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO ATTRACT ANY INDUSTRIALIST?
After noticing what is going on in Nigeria, i believe that regional development is the best approach, that is how i started in 2006 to develop my place. Instead of stacking money in foreign banks, it gives me joy that i can create jobs for my people and Abia youths. And it has a ripple effect. All the money i have spent on the project you visited and the monies i spend on workers salaries still revolve around the state, because the people working for me live in Abia with their families, so they spend their money here.
Moreover i am one person that believes that i don’t need to stay in Lagos or anywhere as an old man, i should stay in my village and I should have everything i have in lagos, around me in my village. That is what i am working towards. So if God gives us life and Jesus tarries, i should be able to transform this place to a city, and everything i want, i will be able to have it here.  So The major reason for investing home is to give our people hope, because the only way to eradicate vices is to create jobs, that is why there are a lot of vices in Aba, there are no jobs. Look at Golden Guinea Umuahia, do you know the number of people who lost their jobs there? Those people laid off are still living in Umuahia. Imagine what their lives and their families would be like today.
Thus if the state can partner with private investors, there is a lot of jobs that can be created. Government only needs to create an enabling environment for them. Government needs to build the people hope, the international community needs to believe in the government and trust the number one man, that is the only way to attract investors!

EXCLUSIVE: OTTI HITS IKPEAZU HARD, CALLS EFCC, ICPC TO INVESTIGATE ABIA STATE FUNDS, DEMANDS NAT. ASSEMBLY TO STOP $200M LOAN

In this exclusive Press Conference release sent to Abia Facts Newspapers, APGA Abia State 2015 gubernatorial candidate Dr. Alex Otti expressed deep displeasure at the way Abia State Government led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is mismanaging the commonwealth of the state. Otti was of the opinion that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his team do not mean well for the state because of the consistent negativity of the government, he queried the government’s inability to offset salary of workers after receiving billions in terms  Bailout Fund, Paris Club Refunds and Monthly Federal Allocation from the federal government. Dr. Otti went ahead to call on men of good conscience to collectively raise their voices in saving the state.

“Gentlemen of the press, from the aforementioned developments, the facts of which can be verified, there is absolutely no doubt that the Ikpeazu/PDP led government does not mean well for Abia State and its people as the consistency of negativity of the government, especially in the management of the peoples’ commonwealth has assumed a provocative and insulting dimension, hence the need for all men of good conscience to collectively raise their voices in saving state by calling Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his collaborators to order so that they don’t plunge Abia and Abians into long term financial and economic chaos”.
In this same Press Release, Dr. Alex Otti made 6 demands which includes the National Assembly reviewing their decision of approving $200m for the Ikpeazu led government.

READ FULL PRESS RELEASE:

Text of a Press Conference Organized by the 2015 APGA Abia Governorship Candidate, Dr. Alex Otti over the 200 million Dollar Loan Approved for Abia State Government by the National Assembly.

Gentlemen of the press, good afternoon and welcome to this important Press Conference convened by my humble self, Alex Otti. Permit me to start by informing you that I convened this press conference, in my capacity as Alex Otti, and as the leader of the main opposition political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State.

Recall that when the ugly developments which bothered on nationally acclaimed misgovernance in Abia assumed a frightening dimension and became an intolerable embarrassment to some of us, I took an audacious decision of quitting my plumb job in the bank, a decision which many informed Nigerians, including many of you gentlemen of the press considered unNigerian through your analysis then. I took that decision because I knew that the pathetic Abia situation required uncommon altruism if the anti-people statusquo must be challenged and defeated.
Though the Abia cabal dwelled on unimaginable brigandage and barbarism to deny Abians their choice and remain in power at the expense of the people, you were witnesses to the people inspired giant strides we made which ended their reign of absolutism and proved to Abians that their oppressors are not invisible after all.
Regrettably, the continuous existence of the same people, the same system of government and governance, and the tragedy it has continued to bring upon the people precipitated this press conference.

On assumption of office, the present Abia State government led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu began dishing out figures of funds it required to clear arrears of salaries owed Abia workers. After initially claiming that it required six billion Naira (N6B) to clear the salary arrears owed Abia workers, the governor later approached the Abia State House of Assembly seeking approval for a loan of Thirty Billion naira (N30B) from a local bank. My party APGA did challenge that request after the state government contradicted the then speaker who had informed his House members that the said loan was for infrastructural development, only for the state government to turn back and claim that it was meant to clear different debts owed by the state. The objection raised by my party led to an unjust suspension slammed on the APGA minority leader for months.
Alarmed by the suspicious claims and moves of the government regarding state financial matters I sought clarification from the government through my Media Aides and my party on the specific amount required to clear arrears of salaries owed Abia workers, unfortunately the government remained dodgy until it received N14.150 billion Naira Bailout fund from the Federal Government. Shortly after receiving the 14.150 Billion naira bailout fund, the governor, through his then SSA on public communications, Sam Hart announced the inauguration of a committee charged with the responsibility of disbursing the funds and promised to clear all outstanding arrears owed workers by October 30, 2015.

Gentlemen of the press, what this specific promise by Dr. Ikpeazu meant was that the government had its record intact and accurate, and knew that the bailout fund would be enough to offset the salary arrears. Unfortunately, that promise turned out a dangerous political gimmick that got Abians bamboozled, and workers seriously hurt.
While the groaning of Abia workers and Abians as a whole continued unabated as a result of mounting debts owed workers and general absence of good governance in the state, the state government again received the first tranche of the Paris Club refund totaling N5.3 Billion. Once again, the government went on air this time around through the Commissioner for finance, Obinna Oriaku claiming that it needed extra N700 million to augment the N5.3 billion to be able to clear all arrears owed Abia workers. Unfortunately, again, this turned out another humiliating trick, leaving unpaid arrears of workers pilling up unchecked.
Just about a month ago, the Ikpeazu government once again occupied the Abia radio airwaves with endless jingles of how the government was going to clear the same salary arrears immediately the second tranche of the Paris Club refund arrived. Sadly, immediately the N5.7 billion arrived, the government came up with another atrocious story this time around, which was that it got less than what it expected.

Gentlemen of the press, this primitive and callous administrative ineptitude has left many Abia workers being owed up to 8 months salary arrears, making their lives and those of their wards miserable. Mind you, the above mentioned funds and other funds secured by the Ikpeazu/PDP led government has nothing to do with the tens of billions of naira gotten by the government as statutory monthly allocations and internally generated revenues.
While many Abians are still mourning and yet to recover from the numerous deceits of the present Abia State government, we got the sad news of the approval of the sum of 200 million United States Dollars loan for Abia State by the National Assembly. This loan which is supposed to come from the African Development Bank has a tenure of about 20 years with a 7 year moratorium. As observed by the House of Representatives, while the President had by a memo dated May 25, 2017, recommended $100million for approval, the Ministry Of Finance by its memo dated July 18, 2017 sent In a request for $200million which was approved. This contradiction, coupled with the lack of clarity on the repayment source of the loan were enough reason not to approve this huge loan request, but unfortunately, the National Assembly went ahead to approve the loan.

Gentlemen of the press, from the aforementioned developments, the facts of which can be verified, there is absolutely no doubt that the Ikpeazu/PDP led government does not mean well for Abia State and its people as the consistency of negativity of the government, especially in the management of the peoples’ commonwealth has assumed a provocative and insulting dimension, hence the need for all men of good conscience to collectively raise their voices in saving state by calling Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his collaborators to order so that they don’t plunge Abia and Abians into long term financial and economic chaos.
Bearing in mind the huge burden of expectation placed on my shoulders by millions of less privileged Abians whose voices cannot be heard beyond their abodes, I am compelled to on behalf of myself, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the suffering Abia masses and indeed, the entire good people of Abia state to make the following demands:

1. That the National Assembly should review its decision taken a few weeks ago and quickly withdraw or reverse its approval of the 200 Million Dollar loan, as any money given to the Abia State government by the issuing body is bound to disappear going by its crazy record of financial recklessness. Besides, the capacity to repay this humongous loan has not been demonstrated in any way or form, irrespective of the outdated document titled “Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project” dated October 2015.

2. That the state government should tell Abians where the billions given to it so far for the development of the state have gone to.

3. That the Abia state house of Assembly should without further delay set up an investigative panel to investigate the financial activities of the Okezie Ikpeazu led government and ensure that anyone found culpable in the obvious financial crimes halting the development of the state is made to pay the prize, so as to prevent the state from being plunged into long term financial and economic chaos.

4. That the federal government should henceforth prevent Abia state government from assessing any form of loan from within or outside the country until it accounts for the ones already gotten.

5. That the EFCC, ICPC and other anti corruption agencies should beam its searchlight on Abia and commence urgent investigation of the activities of the past and present governments so as to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of billions of naira accrued to the state as allocations, internally generated revenues, loans etc, and for which the state has remained in a state of ruins and underdevelopment.

6. Finally, that the state government should immediately pay up all salary areas for which it had received bailout funds and two tranches of Paris Club funds.

May we also advise the Federal Government to pay attention to how funds are used by the states more so, when they are bailouts and other loans that future generations would be made to repay.

Dr. Alex Otti, OFR.
